“I am a "cradle Catholic" so I had an edge in reading/understanding this story. Advice for non-Catholics - and especially non-Christians - please be aware that this book has a very Catholic slant and you should be prepared to accept it as such or I would advise you not to even start reading it. This is a mystery novel, plus an historical overview of events from both 800 years ago and of recent events, plus a spiritual journey - all wrapped up in a fictional account of one family's quest to fulfill a mission entrusted to it by St. Francis of Assisi himself. Anthony Brunelli (who, by the way, is a real person) has known of his family's direct link to St. Francis from the time he was very young. His father made sure that Anthony knew that one day, a descendent of the Brunelli family would be called upon to find the truth of the Sacred Order of St. Francis and to give it to the world at the appropriate time. However, there are forces within the hierarchy of the Catholic Church which wish to maintain the status quo and thereby preserve their own power within the Church. Anthony's quest becomes the basis of the book. I could not give the book a 5-star rating since it is not a must-read for someone looking for a mystery tale. The mystery and thrill aspects are secondary to the spiritual message. Therefore this book is not for the casual reader.”
