Women's FictionThrillerMystery

Would you move a dead body for the sake of your best friend? Ask cha-cha babe Celia Ewing, a sixty-five-year-old widow who has just settled into Boca Pelicano Palms, the Florida retirement community of her dreams. When Celia's best friend Marcy calls her and their friend Deb for help in the middle of the night, they find a naked Marcy trapped under the body of her beau, the community's board president, Melvin. And he's dead. The three friends secretly move Melvin back to his apartment setting off a chain of events that will threaten to tear their community apart and send them to jail. Melvin is one of a number of residents who are dying under suspicious circumstances; and soon Celia becomes an amateur sleuth in an attempt to identify what she suspects is a serial murderer. Filled with humorous, witty observations about retirement communities, the realities of getting older, and the promise of new love, the Cha-Cha Babes of Pelican Way celebrates the deep bonds of female friendships, the desire for companionship at any age, and shows us that it's never too late to learn how to cha-cha through life.

Good Read

“The Cha Cha Babes of Pelican Way by Frances Metzman. This book is a novel filled with humor, mystery, sex, murder, bad language, and fun, is paced in a retirement community where there have been some deaths and now the community board president has died over one of the women that live at the community, Celia, so she calls her best friend and another friend to help her, and what they decided is to move the corpse and put it back in his bed!! LOL Now Celia is involved in the mystery to discover a serial murderer inside the community. The book is well written with a humor touch around it, but it describes how a community gets created by the relationship of its members and how they are seeking mostly for the same feelings of companionship, friendship, emotional support, and physical support, how each member needs different things but at the end, all is about not being alone. I enjoyed this book.”

A mystery that was a fun and entertaining read.

“Author Frances Metzman has written a clever murder mystery with The Cha Cha Babes of Pelican Way. This one had everything needed to make it successful - humor, suspense, and great characters. Marcy, Celia, and Deb are a very likeable characters that will keep the reader interested in their antics. I found myself enjoying every part of this story. The book is ‘filled with humorous, witty observations about retirement communities, the realities of getting older, and the promise of new love, the Cha-Cha Babes of Pelican Way celebrates the deep bonds of female friendships, the desire for companionship at any age, and shows us that it's never too late to learn how to cha-cha through life.’ I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and that added to the book’s appeal. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class whodunit with plenty of humor, romance and drama. Perfect pacing ensures the reader is drawn in from beginning to end. This is a novel all mystery fans will want to add to their reading list. I’ll be looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. I would highly recommend this book and give it a well-deserved five stars.”

Dance your way into a fine mystery comedy!

“Pennsylvania author/sculptor/teacher Frances Metzman dances onto the literary scene with THE CHA CHA BABES OF PELICAN WAY, having an extensive background in writing short stories, teaching creative writing and offering workshops at the university level, serving as fiction editor for a literary journal, and winning multiple awards for her talent in creating short stories. Noting the author’s impetus for embracing the art of writing – a way to rearrange the world in a manner that eluded her in her younger years – makes the take-off of this engaging mystery even more fun! According to the book info, the intended audience is ages 20 and upward, as the story is a terrific combination of mystery, comedy, murder, sex, naughty language, thrills and spills that makes the book a go-to for all adult readers seeking a memorable escape from reality, the literary way. Placing the action and characters in a retirement community is a bow to both seniors and the misconceptions that life in the advanced years lacks spice. The author’s own plot synopsis engenders interest and whets the appetite for the story that follows: ‘Would you move a dead body for the sake of your best friend? Ask cha-cha babe Celia Ewing, a sixty-five-year-old widow who has just settled into Boca Pelicano Palms, the Florida retirement community of her dreams. When Celia's best friend Marcy calls her and their friend Deb for help in the middle of the night, they find a naked Marcy trapped under the body of her beau, the community's board president, Melvin. Melvin is one of a number of residents who are dying under suspicious circumstances; and soon Celia becomes an amateur sleuth in an attempt to identify what she suspects is a serial murderer.’ At once a page-turner for the action and a salute to the true values and needs of seniors electing to live in retirement homes – friendship, companionship, emotional as well as physical support systems (passion never recedes…) – this book is a solid entry into the seldom-appreciated realm of senior entertainment in the whodunit genre. Add sass and sex and sleuthing and up pops THE CHA CHA BABES. More please! Grady Harp, June 20”

Cha Cha rules

“This was an engaging book and a fun read. Friendships between older women are difficult to form , but these women formed an intense relationship with each other based on the cha cha and its liberating effect. There are many twists and turns in the story which kept it from becoming dull. I would have preferred less. ruminating about the dreadful crime they committed, but that me. It held many interest.”
