Suicide India: Vietnam - India Company 3rd Battalion 7th Marines

MemoirBiography

Journey to the depths of the Vietnam War and the impact it had on the lives of American servicemembers in the poignant, powerful memoir from a true American hero. For history buffs, veterans, and anyone with a passion for the stories that shaped the modern American landscape comes a riveting memoir on the Vietnam War. Suicide India traces the experiences of William Lindsay, a second lieutenant during the conflict. Born in New England, Lindsay enlisted in the Marine Corps through the Platoon Leaders Class in 1967 while still enrolled in college. In the summer of 1969, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Lindsay later went on to complete USMC Basic School at Quantico, Virginia, and he finished Reconnaissance Replacement Training in San Diego, California. Lindsay deployed to Vietnam in January 1970. The book traces Lindsay's experience during the war, but it also focuses on what it was like building a life after the conflict, including Lindsay's return home, establishing a career, and the effect of his experiences on his personal life. With vivid detail and an accessible style, Suicide India illuminates the stress, fear, uncertainty, and sacrifice inherent in war. Lindsay's memoir offers incredible pathos, a dash of humor, and even rare glimpses into the mundane aspects of a serviceperson's life while deployed. Those who have experienced the complexities of war, along with their friends and families, will find exceptional value in this book.

Superb Book

“Bill Lindsay writes a compelling account of his tour as a Marine lieutenant leading a platoon in combat in Vietnam. Exceptionally fine writing with great detail and emotion. His first chapter reprises an editorial he wrote for the Hartford Courant in April 1975, soon after his transition to civilian life, which eloquently expresses the frustration and disillusionment he and I (a fellow Vietnam vet) feel about the political decisions made that took young men like us into battle and resulted in the loss of over 58,000 American lives. “Their government let them down. Their government created the situation, sent them there, tied their hands so that a military victory was impossible, and then gave it all away under the guise of a ‘just and honorable peace settlement.” Page 3. He follows that intro with extensive accounts of the missions he and his men were assigned and carried out with great success. Bill’s service, his commitment to his men and their mission exemplify valor, focus, excellent judgment and compassion.”

SUICIDE INDIA - another great read from Bill Lindsay

“This is an excellent read for anyone who is interested in Vietnam, war/military stories in general, and/or the cultural and political climate that was pervasive in the early 1970's. Bill Lindsay captures interesting and compelling stories and experiences that expound upon and amplify what was covered in his stellar first book, "Pop Smoke". Bill's writing style generates a fast-moving and easy-to-read book that keeps the interest level high from start to finish. He is a talented writer who we hope to see more books from in the future”

Accurate Portrayal Of Time in VN

“I was a member of India/3/7 from February 1970 through its pullout in September 1970. The LT was my platoon commander for a while. Very interesting read, remember a number of the things he captured. His writing style is easy to read and flows nicely. Shows how screwed up our "lifer" leadership was with crazy ROE.”
